Skier Development Program

Where Do I Start?

Your individual ability will determine where you fit within the Carolina Show Ski Team. Click the item below that represents your skiing ability to learn more.

Experienced Show Skier

Experienced show skiers will be able to join the Carolina Show Ski Team performance skiers immediately. Note that a new skier will not replace an existing skier in any limited participation act; however, you will be integrated into our shows where the Show Director is able to do so.

How Do I Get Started?

Please join us on the dock for a regularly scheduled practice. In April and May, the team will practice Monday and Friday evenings from 5:45pm until sunset in Windjammer Beach Park in Tega Cay. In June, practices move to Monday and Thursday evenings with Friday night water ski shows. This team competes in tournaments and travels to road show performances.

Water Skier New to Show Skiing

Our Skier Development Program is designed specifically to teach experienced water skiers skills unique to show skiing. Although many of the current development team members are young, there is no age-related constraint for membership. Additionally, performance team members of all ages attend Skier Development practices to coach upcoming members as well as to strengthen and develop new skills.

Who Can Join?

To participate, skiers should be able to successfully complete a deep-water two-ski start and be able to ski independently. You will need these fundamental skills to safely learn seated dock starts, loaded dock starts, water ski ballet, and other skills.

What’s Expected of Me?

The Skier Development Program meets Tuesday nights to practice starting once school has concluded and continues throughout the summer. Dues are $250 per skier per summer. You’ll also need a current registration with USA Water Ski, which you can complete online at USAWaterSki.org. Members under 16 must join with a parent or guardian as a skiing or supporting member. Development team members are expected to attend all home shows to support the team.

Movin’ on Up

Members of the Skier Development Program may move to the performance team at the discretion of the Show Director once they display that they are routinely able to perform the skills necessary for show participation.

Brand New Water Skier

If you have never skied before or you are still shy of the requirements to join our Skier Development Program, we invite you to participate in one of our Learn to Ski clinics. These sessions are open to the public and available on a registration basis as space allows.

Movin’ on Up

Skiers may join our Skier Development Program once they are routinely able to perform a deep-water two-ski start. They also must be able to ski independently behind the boat.

How Do I Get Started?

Once registration opens, you will be able to register through our website. Look for our upcoming clinics here. We do not take registrations outside of the online system to allow all participants an equal chance to participate. If you have questions, please contact events@carolinashowski.org.

Do I Have to Ski?

No great water ski team can survive with skiers alone, though. You can be an important part of our team as a boat driver, spotter (i.e. rider in the boat), announcer, sound personnel, dance choreographer, scriptwriter, stage actor, costume designer, seamstress, or any of the other administrative positions on our team. Anyone who wants to ski or even just be a part of a fun group can join.

There is no age limit to join the Carolina Show Ski Team. We currently have members from age four to over 60! Members under 16 must have a parent or guardian also join the team as a supporting or skiing member.

I Still Have Questions

Please contact our membership liaison. We’re happy to answer any other questions you have with a quick phone call or through email: membership@carolinashowski.org.
